नई दिल्ली– केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन 22 मई को विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (WHO) के कार्यकारी बोर्ड अध्यक्ष का कार्यभार संभालेंगे। डॉ. हर्षवर्धन COVID-19 के खिलाफ भारत की जंग में सबसे आगे खड़े लोगों में से हैं। हर्षवर्धन जापान के डॉ. हिरोकी नकातानी की जगह लेंगे, जो WHO के 34 सदस्यों के बोर्ड के वर्तमान अध्यक्ष हैं।

जहां पूरी दुनिया कोरोना के संकट से जूझ रहा है। वहीं पूरी दुनिया में भारत के कामों को काफी सराहा भी जा रहा है। इसी बीच केंद्रीय स्वास्थ मंत्री डॉ हर्षवर्धन को WHO ने डॉ हिरोकी नकाटानी की जगह चुना गया है। डॉ हिरोकी नकाटानी वर्तमान में 34-सदस्यीय डब्ल्यूएचओ कार्यकारी बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष हैं। वहीं हर्षवर्धन 22 मई से कार्यभार संभालेंगे।

बीते मंगलवार को 194 देशों की वर्ल्ड हेल्थ असेंबली में भारत की की तरफ से हर्षवर्धन के नाम पर का निर्विरोध चयन किया गया। अधिकारियों की मानें तो एग्जीक्यूटिव बोर्ड की बैठक 22 मई को होगी। जिसमें हर्षवर्धन का चुना जाना तय है। वहीं आपको बताना चाहेंगे कि बोर्ड के चेयरमैन का पद कई देशों के अलग-अलग ग्रुप में एक-एक साल के हिसाब से दिया जाता है। पिछले साल ही तय हो गया था कि अगले एक साल के लिए यह पद भारत के पास रहेगा।

कार्यकारी बोर्ड 34 व्यक्तियों से बना है जो तकनीकी रूप से स्वास्थ्य के क्षेत्र में योग्य हैं। बोर्ड साल में कम से कम दो बारबोर्ड बैठक करता है और मुख्य बैठक आमतौर पर जनवरी में और फिर मई में दूसरी छोटी बैठक होती है। कार्यकारी बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष का मुख्य कार्य स्वास्थ्य सभा के निर्णयों और नीतियों को प्रभावी बनाने के लिए सलाह देना है।
